Current: Thermia Project 2024: Traces on Soil

The artists residency program Thermia Project presents the contemporary art exhibition titled "Traces on Soil" at the Townhall in Chora of Kythnos, from June 29th to July 7th, curated by Odette Kouzou.

The participating artists for 2024 are Despina Charitonidi, Konstantinos Mouchtaridis, and Lydia Delikoura.

For the third consecutive year, Thermia Project has implemented the artist residency program in Kythnos, also known as 'Thermia'. The name 'Thermia' comes from the hot thermal springs located in the settlement of Loutra in the northeastern part of the island. Every summer, a group exhibition of contemporary art is held to showcase the works created during the artists' residency and to engage the residents and visitors of the island with contemporary art.

The contemporary art exhibition titled "Traces on Soil" will take place from June 29th to July 7th, 2024, at Townhall in Chora of Kythnos, with the kind support of the Municipality of Kythnos. This year's theme aims to explore the fragility of ecosystems, starting from the human footprint and the variability of the landscape, as well as the interaction between natural and artificial materials. Artists are invited to follow these traces dictated by the island environment, exploring the relationships and impacts arising from human presence and its derivatives on the natural landscape, even through its absence. Caves, paths, abandoned mines, waste collection areas, and scattered archaeological ruins emerge as fields of interest and are reimagined through the works of the exhibition, raising questions about memory, the relationship between humans and the environment, human impact on the natural landscape, rejection, and consumption in contemporary society.
